Overview

NeuCyber NeuroTech (Beijing Xinzhida Neurotechnology) is a Chinese BCI company incubated in 2023 by the Chinese Institute for Brain Research (CIBR). The company develops the “Beinao No. 1” semi-invasive brain chip and Beinao-2, a fully invasive system with flexible penetrating electrodes in large-animal testing, positioning itself across the spectrum of invasive and semi-invasive approaches. Its parent is Zhongguancun Development Group, a Beijing state-owned enterprise.

Beinao Technology

The Beinao system uses a semi-invasive approach, placing a 128-channel flexible electrode array on top of the dura without penetrating cortical tissue, similar in concept to electrocorticography (ECoG) but with proprietary advances in signal processing and wireless transmission. This balances signal quality against surgical risk.

Clinical Progress

NeuCyber achieved early clinical milestones with implantation in three patients in early 2025, and a multi-centre trial followed. Close to 30 patients had received Beinao-1 by June 2026, more than 40 by September 2026, and the company plans to apply for a Class III device registration in early 2027. The rapid clinical expansion reflects both the company’s development pace and the supportive Chinese regulatory environment for BCI trials.

Academic Foundation

NeuCyber was set up to commercialise research from the Chinese Institute for Brain Research, Beijing (CIBR), whose director Luo Minmin is also NeuCyber’s chief scientist.
