Penn's AI app lets epilepsy patients chat with their brain monitors
A University of Pennsylvania app let 13 epilepsy patients in hospital text questions to the system reading their brain activity and mark its seizure alarms as right or wrong, in a study published in Nature Medicine on 13 October 2026. In a simulation run afterwards, retraining on those answers cut false alarms by 80 per cent. Penn holds a provisional patent, has named no commercial partner, and is preparing a Parkinson's study.
