Ray Kurzweil joins nanoparticle-BCI startup Subsense as Product and Vision Advisor
Ray Kurzweil, the futurist and inventor who has argued for two decades that brain-computer interfaces will arrive through molecular-scale machines rather than through skull-drilled implants, has joined Palo Alto-based Subsense as Product and Vision Advisor. Subsense unveiled the appointment on the evening of 2 September 2026 at its Palo Alto headquarters. Subsense, founded 2022 by CEO Tetiana Aleksandrova and Artem Sokolov, is developing a non-surgical BCI based on intranasally-delivered nanoparticles paired with a wearable magnetic-coil headset. The company has raised US$27 million in seed financing led by Sokolov's Golden Falcon Capital and remains in preclinical mouse-model work. The appointment lands one week after Merge Labs and Butterfly Network's chip-supply deal established the ultrasound-BCI industrial base, and adds a molecular modality to the non-surgical BCI landscape.
