Precision Neuroscience appoints John Donoghue as scientific advisor

On Thursday 23 July 2026, New York-based Precision Neuroscience announced the appointment of John Donoghue - founding investigator of the BrainGate consortium at Brown, co-founder of Cyberkinetics, and inaugural director of the Wyss Center for Bio and Neuroengineering in Geneva - as a scientific advisor to the company. Donoghue will advise Precision's scientific and engineering teams on device design, signal decoding, and clinical strategy. The appointment lands two days after Precision's non-paralysed cursor-control demonstration across its 15-plus academic-medical-centre clinical network, and at exactly the moment ABILITY Neurotech, the Wyss Center spin-out whose technology was conceived under Donoghue's own directorship, prepares to begin its own chronic first-in-human implantation in ALS patients.

AMD patients are reading letters again as PRIMA lands its CE mark in Europe

On Wednesday 22 July 2026, Science Corporation announced the European commercial launch of PRIMA, a two-millimetre subretinal photovoltaic chip that restores functional central vision in patients blinded by geographic atrophy from age-related macular degeneration. The CE mark, granted by DEKRA under the EU Medical Device Regulation, covers 30 European countries. The first commercial implant is expected in Germany. PRIMA is the first CE-marked implant to restore, rather than merely slow, central vision loss in AMD, and the FDA has granted it Humanitarian Use Device designations on the same day. Max Hodak's five-year-old company inherited the technology from Pixium Vision after the French developer's 2024 collapse.
